As you know, my 1st fabric collection, Dainty Darling for Riley Blake Designs, is now shipping and can be found online as well as in many of your local quilt shops. I wanted to share this free quilt pattern with you all that features Dainty Darling. It’s called the Darling Quilt and it’s a wonderful pattern to showcase your favorite printed fabrics. This pattern utilizes all the prints in the Dainty Darling collection by using one of the fat quarter precut bundles.
Darling Quilt Free Pattern
As you can see, in the image above, this quilt plays perfectly with the stripes, squares and larger scale prints found in Dainty Darling. Probably one of my favorite aspects of this quilt is all the white space around the printed fabrics. This helps showcase the beautiful colors in all the fabrics and leaves a lot of space to get creative with free motion quilting.
Here is a picture from my The Cottage Mama Instagram feed showing the completed Darling Quilt that was featured in my booth at Fall International Quilt Market in Houston 2016. I hoped to take some additional pictures of this quilt for you all, but it’s actually on it’s way to The French Seam quilt shop in Arkansas to be on display for a Cottage Mama trunk show they are hosting this month. Once the quilt is returned, I’ll snap some better photos of this beauty. The quilt was pieced together by my mom, Jane Michel (Jane Michel Quilt Designs), and was quilted by the very talented Valerie Wagner from Valerie’s Thread Tales in Houston, TX.
Dainty Darling Fabric
You can choose to incorporate the border fabric or you can leave it off (as my mom did in the completed quilt for Quilt Market). If you are just doing the main design you’ll only need a fat quarter bundle as well as white fabric for the front and then you can choose your binding and backing fabric.
I know many of you that follow The Cottage Mama are garment sewers, but if you are wanting to try your hand at quilting, this would be a great pattern to start!
You can find Dainty Darling Fabric available in The Cottage Mama Shop or purchase it from many of our sponsors listed in the side bar of the blog.
