New Patterns from The Cottage Mama now available!
I have been working really hard behind the scenes finishing up three patterns that I wanted to release before baby girl arrived……..and I did it! The new patterns have been released and I am so happy to share a little more about them with you today.
My girls have really come to enjoy wearing knit clothing. I wanted to create some patterns that I knew would be perfect for everyday, yet still be stylish and cute. Also, I wanted to have a set that would coordinate with the other The Cottage Mama Sewing Patterns as well as the patterns from my book, ‘Sew Classic Clothes for Girls‘. Two of the patterns use knit fabric and if you’ve never sewn with knits, please don’t be afraid. I offer tons of tips and tricks in regards to sewing with knit fabric. Also, the ladies in The Cottage Mama Patterns Group on Facebook are so helpful and if you join us over there, you can get help every step of the way. But I promise it’s not hard!
So here is a little closer look at the three new patterns: Double Dutch Cardigan, Maisie Skirt and Leggings and Woodland Hand Appliqué Set.
Double Dutch Cardigan Pattern
The Double Dutch Cardigan is the perfect layering piece to add to your child’s wardrobe. Pattern includes a version for girls and boys. It pairs perfectly with many other The Cottage Mama Sewing Patterns. Both boy and girl cardigans are constructed from knit fabric for ultimate comfort. The girly version has sweet, feminine details and will not only keep your child warm, it will add to her style as well. The boy version uses the elbow patches and eliminates the girly ruffles. You can get creative by adding or subtracting some of the garment details such as elbow patches, ruffles, multiple patterned fabrics in addition to adding unique appliqués (appliqué sets sold separately). This pattern is for confident beginner sewists and if you’ve never sewn with knits, now is your chance!
Boy Variation by Chistine Ousley
This cardigan is one of my very favorite pieces that I’ve created. And I know it’s a winner for my Matilda because she’s chosen to wear it to school several times already (I love when they choose handmade!). Now I just need to make a few for Mr. Caspian.
Maisie Skirt and Leggings Pattern
The Maisie Skirt and Leggings Pattern are two patterns in one! Pattern includes an adorable flat front skirt with whimsical pocket details and beautiful French seams. The skirt can be made in multiple woven fabrics and has elastic in the back of the skirt yoke for the perfect fit. Use fun buttons and trims to make your Maisie skirt truly one-of-kind. Maisie also includes a super-comfortable yoga waistband legging. The leggings are constructed from jersey knit fabric and have adorable details such as a side leg placket with buttons, ruffle and cuffed ankle.
These leggings are now a staple in the girls wardrobe! And believe me when I tell you that they take less than an hour to sew. They are super simple, quick and don’t require a lot of fabric!
Woodland Hand Applique Set
The Woodland Appliqué Set was created as an add-on pattern set for you to use in combination with any of The Cottage Mama Sewing Patterns. The set includes seven appliqués (bird, hedgehog, toadstool, deer, bunny, acorn and squirrel), each in three different sizes. You can use these appliqués to embellish your sewn items in many different ways.
Consider using these appliqués on pockets, dress yokes, quilts, blankets, pillows, around the hem of a skirt, on a cardigan or a-line dress and so much more! You can also use these appliqués to embellish ready-made items such as t-shirts, tote bags, pillows, dishtowels, burp cloths, onesies, etc. The possibilities are endless to what you can create.
You don’t need an embroidery machine for these appliqués as they are designed to be hand cut and sewn on your regular sewing machine. All appliqués are perfect for beginner sewists and this pattern set includes a mini basic appliqué tutorial.
Here is the full set of appliqués that are included in the Woodland Appliqué Set. These are all little creatures that I’ve drawn that I think will add a touch of whimsy to your creations. I’ve never done anything like this before, but if you all like them I will make more of them available in the future. Here are some different ideas of ways you can use these appliqués:
I hope you love these patterns as much as I do! I’m only offering them in PDF form, for now. I’m going to really try to pull back and enjoy our new baby girl this year, so I just don’t want to produce more paper patterns that will take time away from our family to deal with shipping, etc. I’m sure you can understand that……..they grow up WAY too fast!
You can see tons more pictures of different variations of the patterns over in the shop when you click on the individual listings.
If you purchase the three patterns seen here (or any three patterns), you will get an automatic 10% discount over in the shop! Check out the ‘Bundle Pricing’ in the right sidebar of the shop for additional discounts.

HI! Ugh, the spammer people have found you! I have a (tiny little) blog and I hate that! OK, I don’t want to sound like a weird-o stalker, but… I know you have mentioned the Kane County Fairgrounds Flea Market before. I recently moved to this area (just down the road from the flea market!) from Michigan. I know you mentioned the Market before so I’m thinking you are somewhere in the same region. I am wondering: Do you do much fabric shopping local or do you do most of your purchasing online? I’m sure companies send you fabrics, etc. etc. but I wondered if you have any recommendations of great places to buy in this area? I really love the fabrics in these photos. I loooove to sew with knit.
I hope you have time for a quick reply, but if not I understand. I have 4 little ones (6-1) and after caring for them, there is not much more time in the day.
Hope you’re feeling well!
Yes, this did end up a little overly friendly… sorry! 🙂
