This past weekend I flew to Golden, CO to film an episode of the PBS show, “Sew It All TV“. There have been so many wonderful things that have happened this year and being invited onto this show was such a honor. Looking back at past seasons and seeing folks from HGTV and Project Runway, it’s quite a thrill for The Cottage Mama to get to be on an entire episode of this fantastic show.
As I was flying to Colorado I realized that I started my blog and business four years ago this month. I kept running the numbers in my head and thinking that I must have been doing this longer than four years, but sure enough…….I started all of this in October 2009 when Matilda was just four months old. So as quickly as things have flown by the last four years SO much has happened. I often stop and think, ‘Is this really my life?’. What a blessing this has been for me as a creative woman and mother and such a wonderful blessing for our family financially. It’s these neat opportunities that really make me stop and truly appreciate where I’ve come in the last four years. And if it weren’t for all of you stopping by, leaving comments and reading the blog, purchasing clothing, patterns, fabric, etc……..none of all of this would have happened. So thank you………I can’t ever say that enough.
I wanted to share some pictures with you from our show taping this weekend. I didn’t take a ton since we were pretty busy filming our 27 minute long episode, but I got a few to give you a behind the scenes look.
Here is the set before we got all of my things in place. Isn’t it cute? I know my Savannah would go nuts for the wall color since she’s a big fan of orange. It was a really happy and fun set.
Here is a shot of some folks setting up for our filming. There were quite a few people involved in putting this show together. There were camera guys, a stage manager, a sound guy, two directors and hair and make-up (yes, I could get use to having hair and make-up).
So my show is all about Peter Pan Collars. I think they titled it ‘Collar Cutie’. During the episode I take you through step-by-step many of my favorite techniques for perfect peter pan collars such as how to make your own custom piping, how to insert piping into a collar seam, how to make your collar match perfectly in the center of a garment, understitching a collar and finally, adding a peter pan collar to a ready made t-shirt. All that in 27 minutes…..can you believe it?
And here is one last picture of the host, Ellen March, and I before we started filming. We only had to stop one time during taping so we finished up pretty quickly. She was so nice and friendly and we found out we have quite a lot in common with our theater backgrounds and our two year old little boys. So much fun! I’m not entirely sure when the show with be airing, but it will be part of the upcoming season of “Sew It All TV” and can be found on your PBS channel. Check your local listings to see if you get the show or not since every PBS station is a little different. The show will air for the next three years, so you’re sure to catch it sometime if you like watching sewing. And if your PBS station doesn’t carry this show, you will be able to watch this seasons episodes as well as last seasons online over at the Sew It All website.
Again, I had so much fun with this taping! I have my two DVD’s releasing this month and I plan to do more video teaching and tutorials coming up in the next year.
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great weekend!
