I thought we would start 2012 off with a bang here on The Cottage Home with a giveaway from me to you. Why? Because I know I’ve told you before, but I so, so appreciate you all stopping by and leaving such sweet comments every day. This is the least I can do to say thank you for all your support.
I have a set of my favorite fabric organizers! These fabric organizers are the best. They make organizing your fabric yardage so easy. This set includes 72 organizers in three different sizes (24 of 3 different sizes). I did a post on these organizers awhile back (click HERE to read more).
I’m all about getting organized this year, so I am so excited for one of you to win this set! There are many ways to organize your fabric, but trust me, these are the best!
In the pictures above, you can see the organizers in action. I took these pictures yesterday so this is what is currently stored in my studio on these mini-bolts (yes, I know, I think I need a support on my two shelves – lol – fabric is heavy). They will make your sewing room feel like a fabric store. When you can see all your fabrics clearly, it is incredibly inspiring and makes you want to create.
Next, I have a brand new book for you called ‘The Busy Girls Guide to Sewing’. Like the title? Yes, I do too. I’m always feeling like there are never enough hours in the day to complete all the projects I have in my head. With ‘The Busy Girls Guide to Sewing’ by Carrie Maclennan, you can focus in on projects based on how much time you have to sew during the day.
My favorite part about this book is the way it’s arranged into sections based on the amount of time you have to sew. Maybe it’s 30 minutes or 60 minutes……..whatever the amount of time you have, you can make sure to get your sewing fix. It also includes information about fabric, the creative online community and lots of other fun sewing tidbits.
I’ve taken the liberty to wrap two of the smaller organizers with some of my favorite trims from my personal collection. A majority of these are high-quality woven trims and all can be great additions to any of your sewing projects. I believe in focusing on the details in sewing and I think adding unique trims can help you achieve that heirloom quality look and feel. I cut most of these as one yard cuts, however, there are a few two yard cuts as well.
And what do you need to complete your latest sewing project? Woven labels! I ordered a set of these because I just thought you all would really love them. I love the saying, ‘Made by Hand, Stitched with Love’. It’s just so true. Whenever I am working on a project whether it is for one of my children, for a friend or even an order from my etsy shop, I am constantly thinking about the recipient. Thinking about how they will use the item, the look on their face when they receive it, and all the fun things that comes with giving handmade.
There are 3 yards worth of labels on one card which yields quite a few labels. I’ve also listed two more of these sets in my etsy shop, in case some of you would just prefer to snatch up one of these right now (click here).
And finally, I have a fat quarter bundle of some of my favorite Anna Griffin fabrics from her line, “Carmen”. You will receive 8 fat quarters in coordinating prints for a total of two full yards. There are so many projects you can do with fat quarters that I think you will really enjoy this little collection.

I would love to see some technical tutorials too… like how to make your sewing look more professional. Also what is your process when you choose fabrics, trim, etc to make something. Have more in-depth real photos on the process. more inspiration in photos from that perspective. I am already inspired by your stuff so much that this would be icing on the cake:)

I am a 20 year old college student and about the only one my age I know that is into quilting and sewing. I use your page as reference all the time for gift ideas as well as other forms of inspiration. I really would love to see more about quilting. I loved the kindle case tutorial! At my age it really helps to have these ideas because it is a cost efficient way to give a gift truly from the heart.
Another thing that would be so nice to see is some organization tips. I live in a small studio apartment on campus and do not have the luxury of a craft or sewing room so it is always nice to see fun ways to organize. I absolutely love the fabric organizers you are giving away-and those are something I never would have thought of as a way of keeping organized.

What a wonderful giveaway. Learning how to make a quilt is on my to-do list for this year, so that would be fantastic!
I am rather new to Cottage Home so it is hard not to want something you may have already done. I really need help selecting fabrics. I keep going back to my favorites which are quilting calicoes and when I try to find a fabric to use I find that they all look the same! How do you select new fabric prints? How do you tell what is coming into style and what is going out? I know about the Pantone color selection each year but where do you get hints for what style is new?

I am a just-starting-out sewer. I would LOVE to see a tutorial on sewing a nursing cover, or maybe tutorials and patterns to sew nursing tops/dresses. I love all of the girls clothes that you do, as I have a 2 month old daughter, and a 16 1/2 month old daughter. I personally love raiding other peoples’ recipe ideas, so I would love to see more recipes on the blog. I would also love to see more on quilting. I am hoping to make each of my girls (and future children) a quilt of their own, but want it to last.

I’m always struggling to find time to sew, so I’d love to hear any time management tips you might have. I have two small children, and I don’t have a dedicated sewing space, so I usually have to wait for them to go to bed, do all the housework that needs to be done, before I can get out my sewing stuff. Also, the most time consuming thing I find about sewing is the tracing of patterns and cutting out fabric. I’d love to hear if you have any tips for making this process go more quickly. I seem to acquire more fabric than I am sewing, so this year, I’d love to make a dent in my fabric stash. 🙂

Oh my goodness…I’m in heaven here! I just started blogging and my kids got me a new Brothers Sewing Machine for my birthday and I’m overwhelmed by the amount of things I’m seeing and learning just on your blog!! WOW..it is amazingly full of information and great tutorials!! I would love to continue seeing these great tutorials on DIY projects, especially with “scrap fabrics”. I’m still learning how to store, use and organize what I have so I can readily see it otherwise I seem to forget I have it….

I tried to figure out what you meant by follow you on the sidebar but didn’t have any luck with my browser settings. I have followed you for a while using Pulse on my iPod Touch – I hope that counts. I tend to check blog feeds while nursing in the wee smas. I have far less time to check them on the computer and only do so for giveaways since it would take forever (30+min!) on my iPod. what an amazing giveaway! i’ve recently seen postings using comic book boards for organizing fabric. one thing i’m totally blown away by is that you are a mom of three and running a successful business, and that you’re totally organized!! i’m a new mom (well not so new now, as my baby is almost one) but have found this first year with him and trying to run a small etsy shop has been more difficult than i expected! would love to hear tips on organization as well!

Hey Lindsay! I would soooooo love to win this. We just got my office finished in the basement and this is one of the first things I plan to do with my fabric (organize with what you posted). Right now my fabric is just folded into small baskets. Anyway, when I saw your post on FB I about had a heart attack – lol! So perfect!
So onto the actual entry… I love everything you post. I’m a bit torn between recipes and organization.
If you go with recipes, I’d love to see a series with like, 5 or 8 ingredients or less! Or quick prep meals for those moms who want a homemade meal and don’t have a lot of time (ahem – me).
For organization, you could even do a short series on different things around the home – play area, sewing area, kitchen, etc.
OR maybe you could do some kind of “tutorial (or series – apparently I’m all about the series)” on unconventional ways of decorating with fabric! Using it for wall art, putting it on cabinets. I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE a tutorial on decoupaging because I’ve never done it before. LOL! Like, decoupaging fabric to canvas or something to do wall art.
Enough ideas??? 😉

I always love book reviews and giveaways to go along with project show-offs and tutorials. I also like recipes if they’re super good 🙂 and ideas of fun stuff to do with toddlers, as that’s what we’re dealing with in this house.
LOVE reading your blog and enjoy the varied topics…I would like to see more about home organization. I too have 3 kiddos 4 years & under and am experiencing the same “clutter control” issues. Any creative ideas are helpful!

I love all your posts but I am really interested in quilting. I have a lot of fabric that would love to be wrapped around those organizers, so they can be shown off!
I would love to see sewing tutorials on just about anything.
I would love to see more tutorials dealing with sewing clothes. Your dress patterns are so adorable, and even though I am very comfortable quitting and sewing bags, pillows, and small things like that, I find myself very nervous each time I tackle a clothing project.
By the way, your post is so timely! I’ve been online searching for ideas on organizing my stash, and decided to take a break from the research and read my favorite blogs … how funny that yours hit on the topic I needed!

My biggest weakness is organization so I’d love ideas for that. My sewing room carries over into two rooms but I wish I could reign it in.
I would love to see tutorials on how to make your own patterns, how to fit patterns to different sizes, and how to make little boy and girl clothing items from everyday objects (upcycling?). IE: a little girls skirt from a dish towel sort of thing;)

I would love more info on pattern making. I am so interested in this subject but don’t know where to start.
I am relatively new to sewing, but am learning quickly, so I would like to see more about different techniques in sewing, such as different types of seams, making my own patterns, zippers, etc. I would also like to see some ideas about marketing your homemade items – I don’t have an etsy shop or anything like that, but am considering in the future selling some things in my local area.
I would love great recipes, I don’t have kids, but I am curious to see how you handle cooking for a family and keeping your hobbies/job up!

My second try at a post, I hope they don’t both show up. I’m new to your blog but saw some of your sarah jane creations on FB a while back and fell in love with them. If all you ever do is keep posting your fabulous creations, it would be enough to keep me motivated. But if you haven’t done this already….. some accessories to go with the girls clothes would be great tutorials. Fabric flowers for clothing or hair. Hair bow tutorials etc..
Also 2 things I would love to conquer that I am afraid of is 1. sewing with knits, and 2.Sewing with my serger. Other than that, keep up the fabulous work.
