Several months ago my mom, Grandma Jane, participated in the Michael Miller Fabrics Quilt Challenge with the Modern Quilt Guild. When she was visiting, we took some pictures of her challenge quilt in front of the cottage. Basically everyone in the challenge had to incorporate this Petal Pinwheels fabric line into a design…….it could be anything as long as it was quilted. They also had to incorporate a Michael Miller Fabrics solid. And finally, you had to be a member of the Modern Quilt Guild to enter.
I love what mom did with this design incorporating the prints and the solids into this random star pattern. This was a baby sized quilt (38″ x 38″), but I could see this easily sized up to a lap quilt or bed quilt. I also really love the quilting she did on the solid star in the corner.
Mom always makes sure that the back of her quilts are as interesting as the front. I adore that one little star that she added to the back of this one……..it adds that special pop of interest.
Here is the final image of her quilt. Unfortunately, she didn’t win the challenge, but I thought hers was one of the most creative (I know, I’m a little bias). This was my mom’s own unique design and she calls it ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’ inspired by her love of star blocks and her 4th grand baby that is on the way (our little miss who is due to arrive next month). I’ve told mom several times that now that she’s retired (she just retired in June……yay!), she should start designing quilt patterns. We’ll see………..maybe it’ll happen one of these days. It’s stunning! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for commenting, Jaime! I hope you’re having a great day…..xo, Lindsay
This quilt is so wonderful! Your Mom is very talented. I agree, she should consider designing quilts if this is any indication of what she can do. Thanks for sharing your story.
Thank you so much, Lynne! I’ll tell her you said so. Have a wonderful day, Lindsay
I think that your mom s quilt is gorgeous – love the name Sparkle too – I really enjoyed reading your article about it too. I checked out the winners of the challenge and honestly I would pick your mom s quilt hands down. The back is fabulous too – especially the lone twinkle star.

This quilt is wonderful! I agree, your Mom should be a quilt pattern designer for sure! She’s done such great quilts on your blog 🙂
I can’t believe your mom didn’t win, this is Beautiful! I love the design and the one solid star at the bottom makes it really pop.
