Happy 9th Birthday, Caspian!

Dear Caspian,

Today you are 9 years old! Happy Birthday, Buddy! I can’t believe you are only one year a way from double digits. My, how the time flies! Here are some things I’d like to remember about you when you were 9 years old and some thing you might like to know too……..

You love soccer! It’s the only sport you’ve officially tried, but you love it. This is your second year playing on a club travel team. And though this season might look a little different due to Covid-19, you are just happy to be on the field playing!
You are in 3rd grade this year. We are starting the year e-learning and we will see if you end up getting to go into the classroom this year. You have a wonderful teacher.
You are really good at math. You are one year ahead and are in 4th grade math in school.
You love cheeseburgers.
You like to play Roblox on the computer with some of your buddies and your sister, Matilda.
You like to play video games on your Nintendo Switch.
You are not allowed to go on YouTube because you get too intense watching the videos on there, so we’ve limited you to the type of media that seems to be the right fit for you….even though you don’t always think that is fair.
You like Pokemon and have a lot of Pokemon cards.
You are not really into your Hot Wheels anymore (insert sad face). You’ve still got them all up in your room, but rarely play with them.
You have a lot of really great friends. Some of your best friends right now are Kellen, Easton, James, Otto and Tyler.
You are doing a great job with elearning. You pretty much do everything on your own. You are on the computer with your teachers from 8:45 – 3:15 and are doing an amazing job staying focused. I’m proud of you!
You love to go swimming and play with water outside, but you don’t always love to shower.
You love watching sports. Daddy is not that into sports, but you’ve gotten him a lot more into watching all kinds of sports. You know players names and stats that we’ve never heard of before. Sports are definitely a passion of yours!
You are very sensitive. You tend to feel outnumbered by the amount of girls in our house and think ‘sisters’ are against you. They are not, but you feel that way sometimes. They really, really love you.
You would love to try to play football someday, but right now that makes me too nervous.
You like playing basketball outside with Daddy. We got a new basketball hoop installed during quarantine and you are enjoying it a lot.
You love to ride your bike around the neighborhood.
You’ve gotten really good at rolling your eyes, so we are working to make sure you stay respectful when something is not going your way.
You LOVE to snuggle with Mama. You like to snuggle and watch competition shows like Survivor or old episodes of The Amazing Race.
You still poke me with one finger and say “Poke” and that’s your way of saying I love you. You’ve been doing that for as long as I can remember and it’s so sweet.

Caspian Finn, I say this every year, but our house would be pretty boring without you in our family. You bring an energy to our home that keeps us on our toes! You’ve shown us what it’s like to love sports and video games and what it’s like to not be able to sit still and constantly be on the move. You are the best son a mother could ask for and your entire family (including your sisters 😉 love you more than you’ll ever know!! Happy Birthday, sweet boy!
