The Cottage Home Little Girls Sew Along

So I’ve been wanting to do a “sew along” here on the blog for some time and have finally decided that it is time.  Our wonderful blog sponsor, Terri from Fairytale Frocks & Lollipops, is going to be sponsoring this sew along for us.  I was originally going to pick a pattern myself from her fabulous selection of little girls sewing patterns, but I decided I would let you all make the final decision.

I’ve narrowed it down to six patterns that I thought you all would enjoy sewing for your little ladies.  Surprisingly, I have never sewn from patterns from any of these companies, so I’m just as excited as you are to give one of these a try.

Below are the six patterns to choose from (voting is in the left side bar of the blog).  Once the winning pattern is selected, Fairytale Frocks & Lollipops will make sure to order plenty of this pattern for all of us to participate.  You can order the pattern through Terri’s shop and we will go from there.

Pattern #1: Oliver + S – Class Picnic Blouse and Shorts (Size 6m – 12 years)

Pattern #2:  Oliver + S – Seashore Sundress (Size 6m – 12 years)

Pattern #3: Pink Fig – Vintage Jane Peasant Top and Dress (Size 2T – 10 years)

Pattern #4: ZoZo Bug Baby – Maliya Dress (size 12m – 8/10 years)

Pattern #6: Favorite Things – Little Bow Beep Dress (size 1 – 14 years)

So those are the six pattern choices and I would be happy to sew any of those!  I will be doing a series of blog posts and we will talk about things such as how to use a paper pattern, selecting fabrics, and many other tips and tricks along the way.  Basically we will be sewing this pattern “along” with each other.  Also, you all can feel free to ask me any questions you might have as well.  If you are new to sewing this is a great opportunity to learn how to use patterns and if you are a veteran sewer this will just be great fun.  I love using sewing patterns and I think you will too!
If you think you might be interested in participating in this sew along with us, please leave a comment below so that Fairytale Frocks & Lollipops knows about how many patterns she will need to order once the winning one is selected.
So, are you excited?  Hmmm……wonder which pattern you all will choose?  Can’t wait to see!
**The voting is in the left side-bar of the blog, underneath my picture and “welcome” blurb.  Voting in the comments will not be counted, so please make sure you vote in the poll on the side-bar of the blog. Thanks so much!**

  1. Love pattern 1, it’s something a little different than you see all over the place. I’d be interested!

  2. I like the picnic blouse and shorts, but it’s hard to tell if the shorts are the “shortie” shorts that seem to be so popular. I wouldn’t want to make them if they are really short.

  3. No, I saw the shorts at the Oliver + S booth at quilt market and they definitely looked to be a modest length. I’m definitely not a fan of super-short shorts on little girls. Oliver + S seems to have very classy patterns, so I’m sure we’d all be safe with that one!

  4. I love Carina Gardner’s Play Date outfit. My 6 year old niece would look so cute in that and the flower is so in vogue! I haven’t made many clothes but anything for my girl!

  5. I’m so excited you are having a sew-a-long. I’m new to sewing so this will be very helpful.

I let my daughter pick the pattern. She loves Pink Fig – Vintage Jane Peasant Top and Dress .

  6. I love sew alongs! Anything Oliver + S would great. Both of these patterns I still need to buy so a good excuse to order them. 😉

  7. Count me in! Yeah! It sounds like fun.

  8. I’m in! I like the first and last choice. Voted for the last one, but saw there is a lot of interest for the first one. I have 3 little girls to sew for. Can’t wait!

  9. Depending on the timing, I may be interested in sewing along!

  10. love sewing for my kids and this sew along is just what i need to stay on track for summer wear 🙂 (kind of slacked during kcwc) thanks for the opportunity to learn more about sewing with patterns as well!

  11. love this idea – i SO need to learn how to “read” patterns!

  13. I’ve never sewn from a pattern before, but I’ve been dying to make some clothes for my daughter (she’s 2). This sounds like a lot of fun!

  15. So cute! Hoping to play along…this would be my first ever sew along. 🙂

  16. Definitely Pattern #3. Pink Fig!

  17. This looks like so much fun Lindsey! Will definitely sew along. Can’t wait to see the results!

  18. Oh, and I picked the playdate outfit because I think the top would make a wonderful dress too if it was lengthened! Very versatile pattern!

  19. I like pattern #5 Playdate outfit. This will be my first sew along and I’m excited. Count me in.

  20. I have the Oliver + S picnic blouse and short set pattern sitting on my shelf. It’s crying out for me to make, but I’ve been too nervous! This would give me the push!!!

  21. I love #5, playdate outfit. My granddaughter would look great in that outft!

  22. Oh I definitely would like to participate.

  23. I’m going to be the first one to vote for the O+S Seashore dress. Give me an excuse to buy it! 🙂

  28. I pick nr 1!! I love it! Can’t wait to see the results! 🙂

  29. Sounds like a lot of fun!

  30. I’m in…would love a clothing construction sew along as opposed to using a piece of clothing that fits my child as a patten

  31. I like options #1 & #2 the best. I think I’ll be able to participate!

  32. This is perfect! I’ve been sewing a ton of clothes for my niece lately and I would LOVE to participate in a sew-along.

    I like patterns #3 and #5.

  33. I like no. 1 and no. 6… hard to choose.

  34. The patterns are very cute! I would love to sew along!

  35. I have been wanting to try an Oliver & S pattern for a while, and I really like #1. I am 90% sure I’ll join if that’s the one that wins 😉 This should be fun!

  36. Wonderful idea! It was almost impossible to choose just one to vote for. This is a situation where, no matter which I vote for, I can’t lose. I’ll be happy to make whichever wins. Count me in for the contest.

  37. I have just begun sewing for my granddaughter and still have a lot to learn. The Playdate outfit is adorable, and something my granddaughter would enjoy wearing. I would love to sew along with everyone!

  38. First real pattern and first ever sew-along. I’m sooo excited!

  39. I would like to be counted in on this sew along. Love most of the patterns.

I can’t wait, my first sew along.

  41. I’m pretty positive I’ll join as long as the playdate outfit doesn’t win. It’s super cute, but my daughter is too big for that pattern. 🙂

  42. I’ll definitely do it if the Oliver+S top and shorts wins; I’ve been wanting to sew that for a while but not got around to it, and my daughter needs me to make her something that isn’t a dress for once…

  43. Hi,
I would absolutely LOVE to participate with the Sew Along! What a great idea for a new “sewer” like me.

  45. I love the playdate outfit… but it’s too big for my little girl… I’ll play along anyway! 🙂

  46. I’d love to join the sew along!! 🙂

  47. I can’t wait to see which one wins!

  48. Oh, It is hard to pick. I am a new sewer and am interested in sewing along with you. I can’t decided between 1,2 or 5 but will place my vote before the end. Great idea, Thanks!!

  49. I adore Pattern #1! I know plenty of little girls I would want to make it for! Please choose that one!

  50. I have two little girls who love to play outside so I vote for the Oliver + S Picnic blouse and shorts.

  53. Very fun! I have been very busy with sewing for the new coming baby, but this would be so fun to take a break & participate! Hope the playdate outfit pattern wins! I love that design! Thanks, Lindsay!

This will be my first sew along and I have decided to get my 3 daughters involved. They picked pattern #3 – Vintage Jane Peasant dress and top. I have used the Oliver + S patterns and they are great, easy to follow patterns.

  55. Pattern #3: Pink Fig – Vintage Jane Peasant Top and Dress (Size 2T – 10 years)

  56. The more I look at the first pattern the more I like it..you can make the top longer and have a dress for the fall, you can shirr the sleeve for another look, or make them shorter for a short sleeve look. The shorts have a little more design than your regular shorts and after reading the directions it’s easy to do, it’s all faux work.

  58. I would be interested in the sew along. I love to make things for my little girl.
